About Project
Number Please is an interactive game-show style mobile application where players compete by answering trivia questions with numerical answers. Unlike traditional quizzes, scoring is determined not by right or wrong answers, but by how close a player’s guess is to the actual number. After each round, players with the highest differences are eliminated, while the remaining players advance. The last player standing wins the majority of the pot, while a bonus round adds extra excitement by giving the winner a chance to increase their earnings based on their performance in a final set of questions. This mix of competitive gameplay, progressive elimination, and reward mechanics creates a dynamic, engaging experience that blends casual gaming with real-time multiplayer interaction.
Client Requirements
The project required designing a multiplayer game framework capable of handling matchmaking, live gameplay, and eliminations in real-time. It needed to support a dynamic ruleset based on player count, automated question generation, and integration with backend entities such as Game, Score, and Question management. A seamless matchmaking system had to be implemented to group players together, track timers, and display player profiles. Additional requirements included round-based gameplay mechanics (question selection, time-limited answers, scoring, elimination, and progression), spectator modes for eliminated players, and a bonus round for winners. To drive user engagement and early monetization, the app also needed a wallet and in-app purchase system, enabling players to buy coins, pay entry fees, and redeem winnings. Scalability, fairness in gameplay, and a smooth user experience were critical for the project’s success.
Solutions We Delivered
To deliver Number Please, we built a scalable, real-time game architecture that supports matchmaking, live scoring, and progressive elimination. We designed backend entities for Game, Score, and Questions, ensuring smooth synchronization between players and dynamic handling of rounds. A default ruleset was implemented to manage public games, automatically adjusting based on the number of participants. The matchmaking system allowed players to seamlessly join open games or create new sessions, with live indicators showing player count, profile images, and countdown timers. During gameplay, we integrated a round-based flow, including intro screens, question prompts, timed answer submission, results reveal, and elimination tracking. Eliminated players were transitioned into a spectator experience, keeping them engaged while awaiting new matches. To enhance competition, we developed a bonus round module, enabling winners to risk and potentially increase their final earnings through additional questions. For monetization and engagement, we built a wallet system where users start with a balance, pay buy-in fees for each game, and redeem winnings at the end. In-app purchases were integrated to allow coin purchases, while the system tracked balances and transactions in real-time. By combining real-time multiplayer mechanics, elimination-based gameplay, and monetization features, our solution delivered a robust and engaging game-show experience. The platform was structured for scalability, allowing future iterations to expand on rulesets, reward systems, and interactive elements, ensuring Number Please can evolve into a highly competitive and entertaining digital gaming experience.
